Officials inspecting the Biocombinat area in Ulaanbaatar reported that the most polluted stretch of the Tuul River is where effluent from the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant is discharged, with thick sludge deposits found in parts of the riverbed. Authorities cite aging, over-capacity treatment facilities and plan new treatment infrastructure and phased mechanical clean-up to restore the river.
