A naturally triggered avalanche ran down steep slopes above Thane Road in Juneau, Alaska, on March 24, 2026, prompting continued closure of the roadway due to high avalanche risk. Alaska DOT said strong ridgetop winds were rapidly transporting new snow, increasing the likelihood of additional slides reaching the road.
