A lack of snowfall and unfavorable winds have forced Björkliden’s ski area in northern Sweden to open with reduced terrain, limiting skiing to two smaller slopes near the hotel while staff wait for more snow.

After a weekend of heavy snowfall, Tromsø’s snow depots are full and city crews are hauling snow to the sea. To ease plowing, the city is changing parking rules to a 24/7 ban on certain center streets.

The PwC Tremblant World Cup was cancelled due to warm weather, preventing the production of suitable snow conditions for the event.

The word for it here is Schneemangel or snow shortage. There's a phrase for when the snow is plentiful too - das weisse Gold - white gold. It's a reflection of how many alpine communities depend on winter sports for their livelihoods. World Cup skiers will race on artificial snow this Saturday as the Alps see record high temperatures.
