Volunteers nationwide are covering over 4,000 km this year to count ptarmigan and forest grouse for Statskog in Troms and Finnmark, setting a new record for the survey, with results due around late August to early September.
This breeding season for ptarmigans has been the fourth worst on record in northern Iceland, due in part to a June snowstorm.
