The man was walking his dogs on a well-used trail when he came across a sow with two cubs, a Fish and Game assistant area wildlife biologist said.

A mushroom foraging trip near Skilak Lake turned into a dangerous bear encounter when a black bear attacked a dog and forced its owner to defend herself and the animals. The injured dog survived and is expected to make a full recovery.
