January in Finland showcased extreme contrasts with Lapland recording frigid temperatures, including a low of -38.9°C, while southern regions experienced unseasonably mild conditions with a peak of 9.5°C driven by föhn winds.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute has issued a warning of very cold temperatures from Monday afternoon to Wednesday morning, February 26 to 28.

As many people resident in Finland already know, May was an exceptionally cold month. According to the Finnish Meteorological Institute FMI, the last time May daytime temperatures were this low was in 1969.
