Fort Providence

An out-of-control wildfire within two kilometres of Fort Providence prompted a full evacuation order, with residents directed to Hay River as winds threaten to push flames toward the community.

So far approximately 340 bison have died from an anthrax outbreak in the Fort Providence area of the N.W.T.

Northwest Territories fire crews are responding to three early-season wildfires, two of them human-caused, including an overwintering fire detected by infrared scanning near last year’s Fort Providence fire perimeter.
