Changing Plant Conditions

Observation: There are less blueberry blossoms this year then last year. There are more cranberry flowers than last year. The Poplar trees are infested with more leaf miners this year. It is especially noticeable where the trees are closer together. This is important because the people depend on blueberries for the vitamins and antioxidants all year round. The trees are important for providing oxygen and shade. Debbie Sue Nictune

UAF Cooperative Extension Service Consult: (2012-07-11) Mary Ann Lila, Director for Plants writes, "My extension blueberry expert gave me some feed back. He said that the temperature flux (sometimes associated with climate change rather then just warming) can cause plants to loose their hardiness and the earlier blueberries would be more vulnerable to this temperature flux than the cranberries." - North Carolina State University's Human Health Institute
